Light
▾Both plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Bright light is essential for the Ionantha to blush its signature red and for the Funkiana to grow vigorously. Protect them from harsh afternoon sun to prevent dehydration.
Watering & Hydration
▾Soak both plants in room-temperature water for 20-30 minutes once a week. **Vital Tip:** Clumps and needle-like leaves can trap water easily. Shake the plants gently and dry them upside down with good airflow. They must be dry within 4 hours.
Growing Surface
▾**No soil.** These air plants should be displayed on wood, stone, or wire holders. Do not place them in traditional potting mix, as their roots are used solely for anchoring to surfaces, not for absorbing nutrients.
Feeding & Fertilization
▾Use a specialized Tillandsia fertilizer at half-strength once a month. You can add this to your soaking water or misting bottle. This will encourage faster growth and more vibrant flower production.
Maintenance & Clumping
▾Both varieties are clumping plants. After blooming, they will produce "pups" (offsets) at their base. We recommend keeping the pups attached to create even larger, more impressive colonies over time.
Soft or Discolored Center
▾This is heart rot from trapped moisture. Always ensure your plants dry out thoroughly and quickly after every watering session.
Curling or Rolling Leaves
▾A sign of thirst. If the leaves look more "closed" or tightly curled than usual, give them a slightly longer soak and increase your misting frequency.
